A TRULY CHARMING ART NOUVEAU PERIOD SUFFRAGETTE 9CT YELLOW GOLD GARNET CABOCHON BROOCH C1900S. & PERIOD FITTED BOX. M’S & 4.27 GRAMS. A LOVELY PERIOD BROOCH & VERY WEAR ABLE? This brooch is dressed in the classic Suffragette colours of white, peridot and amethyst and dates from c1900s. The brooch carries a full set of English hallmarks and a maker’s stamp to the rear. The brooch has the original gold bar clasp. This brooch is styled in a mourning style from an earlier period and has a compartment to the rear for a lock of hair or a photograph, this appears to be unused. The brooch has an attached hook for a safety chain, but one is not attached. This brooch has good weight of 4.27 grams. This jewel is presented in a period fitted red leather box, which is charming. This type of pendant is exceptionally rare todays market and were not available commercially in period, so many would have been adapted from period jewels by jobbing jewellers, resulting in some unusual designs and a large range of styles. This pendant is from an earlier period and would have been up to 10 years old when adapted and is of good quality, so a rare survivor? The glass stones featured are Peridot for Green, Amethyst for Violet, clear crystal for White, supposedly symbolizing the Suffragette movements mantra, Give Women the Vote? These colours were first adopted in C1900 and the colours represent G reen for Hope, W hite for purity and V iolet for dignity. This brooch / pin. Is a good quality yellow gold item. It is set with. Glass or paste stones and has a simple pin type clasp and a gold metal bar clasp. 1.75 in length and is 1.0 wide. It has an outstanding period patina and has been well loved in the past. Is in antique condition 2/3 and is a lovely period item in red leather, with a blue velvet pad and a satin inscribed interior. The the exterior is in good worn order as is the hinge and button clasp. The interior is in good order. This item is in vintage condition 1/2. There is no damage to the pin / brooch all of the crystals, are in very good order. The central garnet stone is. The simple bar clasp works well. The markings are legible. The glazing to the rear compartment is cracked but serviceable. All of our jewellery is carefully cleaned and checked before sale.
